A Note on Protected Species

Some of our fish photographs feature species you won’t see every day (hello, Atlantic Sturgeon!). Because they’re ESA-listed, we can’t just go snap them on a whim. Every protected-species image on this site was made possible by working hand-in-glove with resource agencies—NOAA, state wildlife departments, you name it—and by holding the proper permits (for example, our Atlantic Sturgeon photos are covered by an Endangered Species Act permit number 21198, issued by NOAA’s Office of Protected Resources). We do not encourage anyone to approach, handle, or harass these protected animals—our work strictly follows all regulations to minimize disturbance and ensure their safety.
